Annotated Article Template

Page history last edited by Michael M Grant 14 years ago

Use this template as a structure for your annotations of journal articles, book chapters, and conference presentations.  The annotation should all fit on one page.  Include the complete reference citation at the top of the page.  Here's an example below.

Duhaney, D.C. (2001) Teacher Education:  Preparing teachers to integrate technology. International Journal of Instructional Media. 28(1), 23-30.

Summary:  The purpose of the article, Teacher Education: Preparing Teachers To Integrate Technology, is to discuss the effect of teacher education programs with preparing teachers to integrate technology in the classroom.  The article cited the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE, 1997) as saying the majority of teacher training programs are failing to meet their responsibility to prepare teachers for integrating technology in the classroom.  With the increase in different technologies, teachers need to develop levels of proficiencies to use these tools in the classroom.  In a study by Davis (1992) it was reported that more than 50% of teacher education graduates surveyed indicated they were not prepared at all or poorly prepared to use technology for instruction, while 20% felt well prepared.  A more recent study (NCES, 1999) reported the majority had some training but only 20% felt well prepared to integrated educational technology.   ISTE has established nationally adopted guidelines for what should be taught about technology in teacher education programs.  Among the challenges with implementing these technology standards into teacher education programs are access to equipment, limited funds, training for college faculty, technical support and lack of research on the most effective use of technology for pedagogy and learning.   Many colleges have made great strides with integrating technology and modeling different strategies.  Additionally, pre-service teachers can be assigned to an in-service teacher who can model effective technology practices in the classroom.

Method and limitations: (Describe the method used along with any limitations of the research)

How this relates to my topic and other things I’ve read? or What does this mean for my research? (Describe how these results relate to your topic or variables.  What is the significance of this research for your topic?)

Other articles I need to locate and review: (List here other references in this article that you need to locate and review.)

NCATE, 1997

NCES, 1999

Does NCES have more recent statistics?
