Planning & Implementing a Statewide mLearning Initiative for Workforce Development

In June 2010, the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) launched a plan to explore mobile teaching and learning in Tennessee. Inviting postsecondary faculty from over 25 workforce development centers across the state, exploration about the impacts of mobile teaching and learning with iPads to workforce development was the goal. This session will present the evolution and evaluation of this ambitious project. We’ll consider the planning, professional development, implementation, feedback, and data we have collected to date, as well as the lessons learned from the scope of this program.

mLearning: A Case Study in Graduate Teacher Education

This session present a case study in mobile learning in higher education. Using findings from quantitative data (survey results) and qualitative data (discussion posts), we will describe a small study for a graduate teacher education course in integrating the Internet into the classroom. Using a specific mobile learning development environment (MOBL 21), we allowed students to experience mobile learning with iPhones, iPod Touches, and where necessary, on desktop computers. We will share findings, lessons learned, current limitations, and future promises.
