Creating a Class Website Using Weebly

This workshop will introduce the participants to Weebly for Education, which is a free Web 2.0 tool that allows teachers to create websites for their students. The participants in this workshop will learn how Weebly can be used to support learning. They will also have a hands-on experience on building their own classroom website. The participants will start by creating a Weebly account, then they will be guided into the process of adding text, multimedia features, and collaboration tools to the website. The participants will also learn how to create class lists with privacy settings. At the end of the workshop, the participants will have created their own multimedia website that can be used in the classrooms.

Web 2.0 From the Beginning

This session is strictly for newbies and beginners. If you’ve heard about rss, blogs, wikis, podcasts, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter but aren’t sure what they are, this is the session for you. If you’ve heard about these technologies but aren’t sure why you’d ever want to use these in your classes, then you’re going to be in the right place. We will start at the beginning of Web 2.0. We’re going to take things slow and answer all of your questions along the way — even the ones you’ve been too afraid or embarrassed to ask.

60 Apps in 60 Minutes

As current and former classroom teachers, we love to integrate technology into our classrooms. In this face-paced session, we’ll share 60 apps (!) that we have found to be helpful for teaching and learning. If you’re looking for ideas and to find out what really works, then we invite you to join us to see the wide range of apps and tools for productivity, communications, subject areas, project-based learning, video, & collaboration.

Blended Learning: the Best of Both Worlds

Do you want to integrate online instruction into your face-to-face classroom? Are you interested in teaching online? Blended learning incorporates the best of both words with face- to- face and online instruction. Teachers who use a blended method believe their students are more engaged and learn more than in a traditional classroom. This session will provide an overview of blended learning environments; teaching strategies and free tools to you help you get started.

FREEways to Mobile Teaching & Learning

One of the significant promises of mobile learning is ability for teachers and students to use their own mobile computing devices. In this hands-on session, we’ll take a look at FREEways for teaching and learning that are appropriate for a variety of mobile computing devices and platforms. Specifically, we’ll explore QR codes, capturing student responses and artifacts easily inside Posterous, using polling for formative assessment, and phonecasting/phlogging for representing knowledge. BYOD — Bring your own devices!

Weaving Web 2.0 Tools with Project-Based Learning

This session will cover the basic principles of project-based learning (PBL) and how web apps can be integrated with PBL. The participants will learn about the constructivist foundations of PBL, its goals, and its design features. Then, suggestions will be given on Web 2.0 tools that can be used for each of the phases of PBL. More specifically, the participants will view examples on how Web 2.0 tools can be used in: doing research around the driving question, collaboration with team members and teacher, development of the artifact, situating the learning experience in real-life contexts, scaffolding, and reflection. At the end of the session, the participants will be provided with handouts on project-based learning and a list of the Web 2.0 tools presented.
